Hi, I’m Elizabeth, the heart and hands behind Fish Camp Design Co.

I grew up on an island floating in the Detroit River. Back in 2024, my hometown was set to lose a weirdly beloved landmark, a pair of smokestacks that looked exactly like giant candy canes. Everyone joked about them. Everyone rolled their eyes at them. And somehow, everyone loved them.

When you were out boating, you used the stacks to find your
way home. When you flew back into Detroit, you looked for them in the skyline. As kids, we pointed at the “big candy canes.” They were the backdrop to growing up, a sign that you were home.

When they were set to be blown up, it felt bigger than it should have. I designed a piece that captured that nostalgia. Just for fun. Just to remember. And somehow… it resonated. People felt it. They missed them too.

What started as one design turned into something I never could have planned. Fish Camp became a place to create and to celebrate Michigan in all its glory, during one of the toughest seasons of my personal life. It gave me an outlet. It gave me joy. It gave me something beautiful to pour into.

Now our goods ship all over the United States. They’ve gone to people who grew up here, moved away, vacationed here once and never forgot it, or just love everything about this mitten-shaped state.

Every sticker, shirt, magnet, and card is designed with that same feeling in mind: carrying a piece of home with you.

Fish Camp Design Co. is rooted in Michigan. And if Michigan has ever rooted itself in you, you’re in the right place.

why fish camp?

A question we get all the time: “Why Fish Camp?”

Fish Camp started as the name of our annual fishing trip up north with my family. In the beginning, it was all about early mornings on the boat, glassy water, and a very serious competition for who could land the biggest king salmon on Lake Michigan.

Then babies started joining the crew.

And somewhere along the way, it became about more than just fishing. The focus shifted from the size of the catch to the size of the memories we were making.

If you live in Michigan, you know there is something about “up north.” It is not really a place on a map. It is a feeling. Slower mornings. Lake air that smells like sunscreen and pine. Blueberry picking. Sweatshirts at night. That deep exhale you did not even realize you were holding.

Fish Camp is where so much love in my life has lived.

Naming my business after that place felt natural. Because the same nostalgia, warmth, and Michigan magic that lives at Fish Camp is what I try to pour into every design.

Fish Camp goods are meant to feel like that. Familiar. Rooted. A little nostalgic.

A small piece of Fish Camp you can carry with you, wherever you are.
